No difference when the CSI is unplugged. I thought I had fixed it by cleaning the IACV out but apparently not.

Here's a warm startup... can anyone hear anything weird? Also, in the tail pipe video you can hear the hiccup in the exhaust I keep talking about. Not sure if its a misfire or what, but the engine shakes when it does it. Vacuum gauge doesn't pick it up.

Warm startup:

Hmm. I might hear a bit of t-chain noise on the startup. You're gonna change that, right?

Definitely notice that sound on your exhaust and it seems like a miss. My buddy's runner did the same thing but only under heavy load. Turned out to be his plugs were ancient. My first guess is electrical. Did you replace everything with oem?

Can you feel that miss when you drive it?

Yeah I have a weird sluggish startup. First 1-2 seconds it really stumbles bad no matter warm or hot. Worse when cold actually. Makes some weird clunky noises then smooths out. Cold will idle up normally, but warm will stay sluggish like I said.

The miss cannot be felt when driving. All resistances, air gap, etc were checked in distributor, coil and igniter.

I replaced the spark plugs with NGK, but the cap and rotor and plugs are not OEM, but Napa Gold. I may try replacing cap and rotor with Toyota as well as getting new plugs again just in case. It just reminded me that I don't remember the miss when I first bought the truck.

Im thinking its running lean. The plugs look good though, but if I hold open the vafm door just slightly to richen mixture, the engine idles much better.

Doesn't look like it... I was able to swap out an AFM from a solid running 22re. Exact same problem.

I need to get a video of me just punching the throttle a few times. The motor just sounds like it bogs....Sounds like an exhaust leak, or something (but its not exhaust leak, I am certain).

ALso the fuel filter is brand new, and fuel pressure is perfectly in spec. The injectors were all just re-manned by RC engineering, so fuel system appears to be functioning. The last thing would be to pull the pump, but I don't think thats the problem.

It just seems like unmetered air is getting in somehow. Like I said earlier the engine ran perfect for the first 2 days, and seemed like the new gaskets on the intake, etc all helped for that time. Then for whatever reason it sprung a leak.

Ever figure this out? I'm having similar issues although it's with the 3vze.

Is your timing erratic when this happens or does it sort of slowly move around? When my timing light went bad the mark just jumped all over like each flash was in a different spot.

Did your idle drop when you jumpered the test connnector?

I have a hard time thinking the timing chain could cause this, or the tensioner for that matter. The tensioner is on the "slack" side of the chain, and if your just idling the cam can't rotate faster than the crank, which it would need to do to cause this problem. If your chain is way stretched out it certainly could cause a problem in drivability.
I jumped the test connector in my truck to put it in time but the idle didn’t change when it was jumped and when I removed the jumper. Any thoughts?

That just means that at the temperature, etc., that you were working the commanded idle timing was the same (or very close to) base timing. "Usually" there's a small difference, but I often find no change.

Idle not dropping is a sign of TPS out of adjustment. verify that before anything else.
