Hi guys first time on the forum. Im in need of some serious help. Im in the middle of rebuilding my 22re for my 86 sr5 extended cab pickup. For whatever reason I cannot get my timing cover installed. Its much too tight of a fit. My new oil pan gasket it very thick. Do you guys have any tips to get the cover set properly? 4x4 with a 4" lift on 33's and a 8000lb winch up front. Help me get my truck on the road! Thanks

Do you have the cylinder head on? You might have to loosen the oil pan bolts to get the cover on.

loosen oil pan. timing cover goes on first.

Thanks. My engine is sitting on a tire. Will i need to suspend the engine in the air and completely remove the pan? Ive been trying to get the damn cover on for about 2 hours, chewing up gaskets trying to beat it in haha. Also could I get away without using rtv sealant or is it a must have? My block is pretty bare right now.. How do you sugest I connect my chain to hoist it up? Alot of questions I know but I need answers. Hate paying mechanics when i know im capable if i know the proper procedures.

i would loosen all the oil pan bolts. and there should be two tabs that bolt to the cylinder head once you get everything together. thats how you lift it.

If you don't have the engine hooks find bolts with the same thread pattern that are possibly 2" long so you can run a chain though it? I'm rebuilding my 22re as well. Jealous to see how far you are.
Also, I would highly recommend NOT using RTV and calling it good. Try and do it the right way it you want to see another 200-300k miles

Thanks for the reply. Check my other thread "engine mounting advice" ive already installed the motor. Hope to have it running tomorrow
