Who has tried the temp fixes for head gasket leaks?Like thermogasket, etc. I have a small leak in the back by the #6 cylinder. Can't afford to fix it the right way right now and need it to hold together for a month or two. It's not really losing hardly any coolant right now. Ideas? I know it's not a permanent fix, but I don't have many options right now.

i used a pretty good leak seal and followed the directions to the letter this product does not like antifreeze i had a small leak on the leaf side between head and block.

It lasted a year before I could pull the head and fix it right

Well I bought a tube of alumnaseal, and we'll see if it can stop the leak. I'm just hoping to have it hold togeter for a couple months.

my aunt and uncles porshe blew the head gasket, they decided that stuff would be the best way to fix it
Like 3 months later they blew the motor
They are still making payments on it too! hahaha

The problem is when people go dumping too much of that stuff in their cooling system. Then it clogs up your heater core and creates all kinds of fun problems.

I will never use that stuff. I'd rather pull the head to fix a BHG than put that stuff in my cooling system.

If I had a 22re it wouldn't be a question, I've changed those out in auto part store parking lots. The v6 is alot more complicated and a pita from what I can see. Plus, it's my daily and I can't afford to have it down for any amount of time right now not to mention I don't have the 500-600 bucks I'll need. The motor is gutless and probably has a weak cylinder anyway. I want to swap out the motor next year.

this is what the Head Gasket Sealer(RED DOOKIE) did to my radiator.....sure it will work but with consequences, just my .02 cents

Think that looks bad... Just wait till you tear it apart and see how clogged the water passages are...

the head gasket stop leak was put in before I purchased it.What a surprise!! and yes if I decide to do the head gasket replacement,I will see the clogged passage ways and will take pics

I thought I had a head gasket problem and used Bars Leak Head Gasket Repair (the $70 version) I can't speak for the repair, but my heater core clogged in less than 100 miles. Turned out the smoke was caused by a faulty idle up valve on the power steering pump, it was sucking steering fluid directly into the intake.

there is one can of stuff that is guaranteed to work; it comes in like a 12 oz can, and it is costly, but uses micro chemical technology,no particles of any kind, that only hardens, when it comes into contact with air, and differing temps- that is how it finds the leaks, or vaccuum leaks, and hardens. I know autozone, and a few others sell it, i think it is about 50 bucks a can though!!!

when I THOUGHT my headgasket was blown, I used THERMAGASKET. It actually worked for about 600 miles or so, but it turned out my timing chain guide was broken and I eroded the water pump area. So,even though the THERMAGASKET sealed the breach, it didn't stand a chance against a moving part like the timing chain(22re). And no, no appreciable damage from using the stuff,heat worked, water flowed and no clogged passeges.
BUT...seeing that your engine is NOT a 22re, you know it's NOT the chain either.
For me, if I knew then what I know now(was not the headgasket but rather was the timing chain), I never would have used the stuff(Themagasket) because it was a waste of time and money.
1 thing I WOULD do if I were you is change your radiator....if your headgasket failed because it was going to fail anyway that's one thing. But if it's because your radiator is junk, eliminate that problem.

I've seen these kinds of stop leak products stop up the coolant passages so bad that when it was finally torn apart to replace the head gasket (usually very soon...) the block had to be striped down and both the head and block had to be hot tanked to clean the crap out.

Great news. While doing a fuel injection service I noticed one of my heater core hoses had a bolt stuck in the end of it, and had a small leak. Lo and behold, it was dripping down the side of the engine and collecting on a ledge at the head gasket base, which made it look like a hg leak. I'm EXTREMELY relieved. I do plan on wrapping the crossover tube with header wrap to try and keep temps down.
