TDC Help

I have uh... no idea how to set my engine to TDC I have a 1993 22re and I'm doing the head gasket the exhaust and intake are already off this is where I need to set it to TDC but I'm not really sure where the timing marks are or how to do it. i tried to search but couldn't really find a guide on how to set it correctly? Help please my kit(s) from enbldr are coming today and I wanna be ready lol

I'am also replacing the timing chain and water pump/oil pump dont know if removing the cover shows the timing marks?

put crank pulley v-groove (timing mark) @ zero on the timing mark on the oil pump. Only turn engine clockwise if you overshoot it. It's ok to turn backwards though but you must hit the mark going clockwise otherwise the tension in the chain will affect where the cam sits. Then remove valve cover and ensure both #1 (intake and exhaust) valves are closed. (rockers will be loose). Done. TDC compression stroke. If the valves are not closed (loose) rotate one more revolution.

Also better download yourself a copy of the FSM as well, your gonna need it.

Valve cover is already off, and what about lining up the distributor? Sorry for dumb questions. I have a copy of the FSM. Would you mark the chain and gear at the top before you remove them as well?

positioning of the chain is in the FSM. *hint* chain is already marked. Distributor has to come out to take the chain off. Re-install of the distributor is in the FSM as well.

How many miles on the motor? It might be time to put a new timing chain kit on the truck anyway. They should be changed ever 100,000 miles. Might as well do it while the head is off to save future headaches. Get the steel rail kit from ENGNBLDR.
