Tach reading low.

So a few months back i did the sr5 gauge cluster swap into my 88 22re. The tach has never read correctly. max is 4-4500 rpm roughly. the tach is from an 89 was told it was a 4 cyl but im thinking it might be from a 6. is there any way to make the tach read right or am i stuck with either getting a 4 cyl tach or an aftermarket one?

so that write up is for 2nd gen gauge cluster. i have my first gen one apart but its a lot different inside.... anyone know where to test resistance on the first gen cluster and how to remove the plates without breaking anything.

Edit: figured it out. thanks again for the help. gonna go plug it in and see if she works!
