A/T won't downshift out of OD
Hey all-
Thanks in advance for all your help on other stuff, but I've got a new one!
The AT in my '88 3. slow shift fine through the gears, including OD, without any issues; but once it gets into OD, it stays there, even under full throttle.
It also seems to shift into "top gear" a little early.
If you use the OD off switch, the tranny functions fine in the first gears.
So heavy acceleration ( onramps, passing, etc) are a no go.
My Mechanic that's been working on it while I recovered from surgery said I should " just use the button, it's an '88".
I'm not very thrilled with that response, though. I'm also about 80% recovered, and have gained just enough confidence to really get in trouble, since the minor success of cleaning the injectors, and replacing that little j shaped coolant hose and BVV.
Any thoughts?
Thanks-

I noticed my '90 doing exactly this when I disconnected the throttle position sensor for some testing. I would recommend testing your TPS first.
