Swimr@DaResq-'94 Yota Pickup-New to Forum and offroad
Hi all,
New to this forum! Looking to fix up my Yota a bit! '94 standard cab, 22RE, 5spd, 4x4. 188,000+ miles. 31x10.5x15 on 15x9 steel wheels. I plan on lifting a few inches to put on 33x12.5x15, but nothing too crazy as it is my daily driver.
Runs pretty good, a few idle issues and steering shimmy. I just ordered a Sky Jacker 9000 steering stabilizer to replace the worn OEM part. Hopefully that will smooth out the shimmy in the steering wheel.
Any advice or comments on what the best setup would be for a good lift that drives well on the road and handles great offroad. I'm pretty new to trucks and offroad. Lots of experience with Motorcycles and dirt bikes. Good mechanical knowledge of most systems other than suspension and 4x4 differential.
Thanks,
Chad

Nice truck! Welcome I yotatech! I have a 94 too, mines a extra cab v6 auto.
Lifts are just how much money you wanna spend.
I'm gonna do ball joint spacers and add a leafs to clear 33s

Nice rig! Looks real clean.
Basically, just make it whatever you want it to be. If you drive a lot of miles though, don't go too big of tires. They will kill your MPG's and they do not wear well, meaning you might only get 40kish miles on them. Unless you don't mind.
Lots of gearing, IFS, and tire info here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...tickys-242840/

ball joint spacer and new shocks for the front, 63" chevys for the rear for inexpensive suspension upgrade.
http://www.nwtoys.com/content/135-ch...-swap-faq.html
for a more expensive but a little higher end suspension go blazeland or total chaos front, and a set of deaver springs SUA (spring under axle) long travel setup.
depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

Thanks for the welcome and info!
For the lift, I was going to piece it together to get the most out the components. Not too sure how high I want it to ride at this point, but 33's are as big as i will go until I get a more reliable daily driver.

Adding a steering stabilizer to fix a shimmy is really only a bandaid. I'd take a look at your TREs and alignment numbers. Replacing things like TREs, ball joints, bushings, etc isn't that hard or expensive and can make a world of difference.

Thanks NickL, I had the TRE's replaced a couple of months ago. I'm wondering if they(Garage) could have missed something else or if the TRE's are bad again? My steering has a good bit of play in it, and I replaced the front brake rotors and pads in April.
I'm going to go through the entire system piece by piece until I figure it out. Thanks for your help!

Just changed out the Steering Stabilizer. The OEM unit was broken, the shaft sheered off inside the shock body. Drives much better now, but still have a slight shimmy when applying the brakes above 45mph. All of the TRE's looked good. I might have to try new rotors next. It was super easy to install and setup!

Also looking at doing a lift kit similar to this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-95-Toyota-IFS-Pickup-3-2-AAL-Lift-Kit-w-Shocks-Diff-Drop-4WD-PRO/280946894036?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D18348%26meid%3D2191566320929332413%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D8402%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D370916555492%26
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on this type of lift?
I only need it to clear 33's, I'm all about trimming the fenders for tire clearance if needed! It's still my daily driver, but I want to make it more aggressive and off road capable.
Thanks
