Swapping Interior Door Panels from 2nd gen to 1st gen?

Has anyone tried this? They sure look the same size and shape. I have access to a 92 4runner and like the arm rest/switches better than on my 86.

I'm willing to do some fab work to make the mounting holes line up if needed.

Haven't done it or even seen it done. Go ahead, do it, and post some pictures so we can see before and after.

Well my quick research turned up that the power window/lock switch harness has one extra wire in 92 than 86 did and the connector plugs are different. I'm willing to take a run at it, but could use a little assistance with the schematics as I'm not the best at reading them.

Any volunteers for helping me interpret them? If so, I'll give it a shot.

Thanks in advance!

I have overwhelming curiousity in this. 1st gen panels are bland and unconventional. I can read schematics... the electrical systems on these are one of my few specialties. PM me if you're down.

This was my tip off to the difference:

89-94 Hilux (2 dr) window controls: http://www.switchdoctor.net/products...ch-234-17.html
(Pic 2 shows harness plug close up)

vs.

84-88 4Runner window controls: http://www.switchdoctor.net/products...ch-873-17.html

I have to bow out of this one. Apologies for starting and not finishing. I have bigger, more critical issues with the rig right now I have to address.

Update - I finally got back around to trying this out. I found out that the 2nd gen door panels are actually different dimensions - they're shorter lengthwise. Bummer, could have been a cool swap.
