swapping the ADD with a a non add carrier
Hi. Learning 4x4 so please bear with me.
Picked up a "new" carrier and axle tube with a Lockright from a non-ADD toyota and a set of locking hubs as well today after looking for the last few weeks. Harder to find 4.56 one. I thought I did well for $150. My sons old spider gears exploded or something . Took the drain plug off and more metal than oil came out.
Anyway, I would rather use the axle tube without the housing for the vacuum actuator and use the regular one instead just to make everything look, and be, simpler, cleaner and just one less thing the leak. Is there anything that I will have to to the axle tube to be able to do this? Is it as simple as undoing the axles, sliding my exploded one out, and sliding the new one in? I think that after seeing that actuator fork I keep thinking that something has to engage the 4x4 but since I am removing all that I don't have to worry about that I am thinking. Its already "engaged" and then use the hubs and T-case to lock everything up. I am correc tin this??
Also, since I plan to lose the add axle tube how can I still make my 4x4 indicator light work correctly when the T-case is shifted into 4x4? By following the wiring diagram it appears that I could just close the circuit by connecting the wires and everything should work but my eyes are getting fuzzy after reading so much stuff for so long. This sound right?

put the manual hubs on and simply bolt the new 3rd with the axle tube up in to place. it's a direct swap. I never had add in my truck so I'm not sure if there's a vacuum line to plug or not.

x2 I did the swap myself and just disconected the cv's at the rear and replaced the section as one. As for the vacume lines and a.d.d. ya you will have them to deal with but all I did was tye them up to the fenderwall with zipties.

hey harleyman...
I was planning to remove the vacuum lines, vsv's, and the canister.
What, if anything, did you do to maintain the dash indicator for 4x4 engagement??
