swapping 90 22re into 87 4 runner
Hello all, first post after days worth of reading, sorry if i missed a post that covers this already
My son's 87 4runner cracked the block after severely over heating on the highway. I purchased a complete engine from a 90 truck. It had everything from clutch, alternator, intake, and AC on it, as the previous owner swapped in a 350. The engine was well taken care of and he threw in a KN cold air intake, all for 350.00 so i thought it would be the way to go for now.
I can see that the intake is different from the 87 to 90. Will it be as simple as removing the intake from his 87 and installing it on the 90. That's what i would have needed to to if i bought a new long block, so i hope the answer is yes. Also will the distributor need to be swapped or will the 90 work with the 97 harness and ECU?
I assume that it would be easiest to remove the intake while the engine is installed so the wiring harness can stay in place, and then reinstall on the new engine once it is in?
Thanks for any help
Jesse

The easiest way to do it is to unplug the wiring harness from the computer and push it through the fire wall into the engine bay, then unbolt the engine and remove the engine and wiring harness as one unit. Once you have the old engine out swap everything over to the new engine, (you will probably need to swap the distributor also), and then bolt the new engine in place and plug the harness back into the computer and your done.
