Suspension question. I bought the wrong shocks. Can I use them as rears?

I bought the bilstein 5100 (24-185745) shocks thinking they were for 0-3" lift. They are actually for a 3-4" lift My mistake...

They seem pretty similar in size to the rear shocks after a quick line up. Has anyone used them as rear shocks? Would I be ok to use them or is it out of the question.

My runner is stock and I don't want to have to lift 3" just to use these shocks.
