Suspension, Maintenance

ok so i just bought a 93 runner that needed some work

so far iv put a new fuel pump, new plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, cleaned the egr, cleaned mass air flow, been running high octane fuel, new valve cover gaskets, and been fixing little things here and there,

my question
i would like to raise it a bit and get it in top condition,
but the problem is im only 18 making about a grand a month in high school as well,

so i want to do what i can to better the suspension because i will be putting this rig through trails come summer,,

today almost flipped it even in a 3 foot deep puddle haha got the carpet soaked

scary

so anyway any suspension ideas such as cheap good shocks, heavy duty torshion bar, things like that i would love to hear it

thanks

Hey man, I'm also 18 in High school myself. Uhm , honestly man there is a easy way for that with a cheap 3 in. suspension lift. Overall it costs like 300-400$. You will need 3in blocks for the rear and a 2.5 or 3in leveling kit for the front. I currently have this on my tacoma with 33in tires ( no rub only 275 tires though ). torsion bars you are fine with right now you worry about that AFTER you get a real lift. but you can go online nad order a front leveling kit and go to your local advance auto parts ( which is where I work at ) or a auto zone to get a 3in block for the rear.

Search for bj spacers. search for cruiser coils. search for zuk mod. search the what size tire will fit thread. Search for the junkyard mods thread. Lots of people here in the same spot as you just gotta search a little.

I don't recommend BJ spacers for lift, even though they can make the rig sit higher. BJ spacers are more appropriate for adding travel to the front end- letting the front wheels move more.

If you want bigger tires, a body lift is a better option.

If you want bigger tires and somewhat more capable suspension, installing BJ spacers and a body lift is an option.

So what do you want to do with the truck?

i would like to upgrade the suspension, not a body lift since it would still be all of the same parts

The ~$16/ea shocks i'm running are junk, but they are still 100x better than the blown out junk they replaced. I think they're bottom of the barrel monroes, available at any auto parts store.

you cant do blocks in the rear, your rear is a 4 link. I believe that you can put some land cruiser coils in there to get you about 3" of lift. I dont have much expierence with this year runner, but i say bj spacers in the front an LC coils in the rear will give you a nice little bit of lift. oooor, just cut your fenders.
