surging rpm's, cuts in and out while driving.
New to the forums, so please bare with me. I have a 1987 4runner sr5, 22re. some basic mods to the motor, being a k&n air filter and a header. It starts and idles great, but if you push in on the throttle and bring it up to approximately 2000 rpm's it surges up and down between 1500 and 2000 rpm even though your holding the throttle steady. You need to push the throttle a descent amount more to get it to continue up, but then it jumps to around 4000 rpm. Mind you this is all in neutral and stationary.
While driving, it's fine if your idling, accelerating, or decelerating. But if your trying to cruise and maintain a speed it does the same cutting in and out i discussed earlier, and is slightly hesitant on the acceleration unless you give it quite a bit of throttle.
I'm stumped at this point, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
