My pickup always felt like it never had any top-end power. The 22R isn't known for high revving anyway. Whatever. I decided to take the carb off to troubleshoot a quirk with the choke and found this:

There is a vacuum can right above that butterfly. Maybe the butterfly is vacuum operated. Look to see how the linkage is connected and trace the operation from there. You can also google that carburetor on the internet and find out how it all operates. Maybe

it's been years, but i recall that the secondary is part-time. if i remember correctly, either that vacuum valve engauges it to work with the main off a thermo vsv, or the choke open engages it, but it does work off the main levers..

The secondary is definitely screwed up. There is a lockout linkage that keeps it closed when the choke is on, but even with that out of the way it's not moving at all. The FSM just states that it's supposed to start opening when the primary is at 52 degrees open. It also explains why my gas pedal goes half way down and then there's a lot more resistance! I think I'm going to just leave it, trying to get it open was just rounding out the shaft the plate rides on.

Tried that and Pblaster. It's not moving at all. It's almost like the shaft is cemented in place.
