Strange Whooshing/Roaring Noise

While driving home today I noticed that if I depress the clutch or just barely touch the gas pedal above ~35mph my truck makes a very loud whooshing/roaring noise. As soon as I let the clutch out or push on the gas more it goes away. Below 35 there is no noise. The trans was rebuilt 10k ago and the clutch was replaced at the same time. I replaced the clutch master cylinder a couple weeks ago and I just installed OME leafs and shocks with my the help of one of my friends this Friday. I also just replaced all the fluids with Redline. I had driven at those speeds after the lift before this evening without any noise. Any ideas as to what could be the culprit? Thanks in advance.

Year and engine/tranny combo?

Tighten driveline bolts, grease shafts(u-joints), double check fluid levels and check for leaks. Thats what I'd do to start.

its an 4x4 87 with the 22r and a 5 speed. Truck has no leaks whatsoever, fluids are all good. I'll check the u-joints. When you say driveline bolts, do you mean just the ones on the driveshaft or the driveshaft bolts, x-fer case mount, motor mounts, etc?

Maybe a lion is drowning in your gas tank. You never know.

Ohhhh!!! That's worse than an elephant in yer intake, man! That mane gets all wrapped up the filter. And, the injectors?!! Gees.....what a mess.

I've got some pachyderm dung injector cleaner that'll take it right out, though.

I haven't noticed any vibes but I'll check the u-joints just to be sure.

I just touched each cap on my u-joints and they were all the same temp and none were too hot to touch. I also twisted the driveshaft with my hand and got some movement but it wasn't just play in the u-joints, it was about one or two degrees of motion for the whole driveshaft. I've also been getting a lot of vibration going into third gear since this noise started happening. No other gears have that problem.

So I lubed the u-joints last night and the noise is still there. That lion would have drowned by now too, unless he's got a little raft in there. Any other ideas?

I just fixed the problem. The u-bolts weren't even close to 90 ft lbs when I checked them today. I torqued them up and then went for a drive. No funky vibes going into gear, no more roaring, just a nice quiet truck. Thanks for the help folks.

Just kidding, that noise is still there, it was just quiet on that day. My front end is lifted now and I'm still out of ideas.

I think I am having a similar problem but mine happens mainly in fifth gear. Could be the tranny since mine has never been rebuilt. As far as the vibration I am going to check the u joints as well as make sure the drive shaft and joints are in phase. I would suggest you try this as well. I hope to get to it this weekend but i am in the process of replacing CVs front wheel bearing, drivers side rear hub and rear brake shoes on my 96 Corolla daily driver. Not too bad for 220 thousand.
