After driving my 4Runner (88 3vz auto) for a while I've gotten tired of the EXTREMELY stiff gas pedal. I've been doing some searching and it seems like the best solution is to replace the throttle cable. The problem I see is that apparently it's called the "accelerator cable" and I'm not sure what part to buy?



I've been doing my research and ToyotaPartsZone shows a few different things that mention "accelerator cable" and the 1st one just seems like a bracket and the second one isn't even available...

Any Help is appreciated!

1. 78184-35060 - BRACKET, ACCELERATOR CONTROL CABLE ($16.50)
2. 78180-89146 - WIRE ASSY, ACCELERATOR (N/A Anymore)

just put wd-40 on the sucker and problem fixed no need to buy new one unless it's stretched already.

How do you know if it's stretched?

Remove the end on the engine, hold it up in the air, and soak the hell out of it with WD-40 into the open end of the cable shaft.

if you try adjusting it and you still have play it's stretched
if you have damage inside the insulator where the actual cable is you are going to have to replace it
but take into consideration they are old trucks and dust and moister eventualy go into every thing my suggestion is clean good with brake claner dry it up and put some of that wd or liquidwrench what ever to make that cable get lubricated and get it moving freely
