Stereo considerations....

I am thinking about upgrading the factory stereo to a more modern and powerful setup. Don't want to get too crazy because then the whole theft thing gets to be too much.

The rear interior panels have plenty of room for some larger speakers without having to go to a sub. I have a nice set of Infinity 6x9's for that space.

I plan to mount front speakers in the doors, there have been a couple of good writeups about that. Those will either be Inifinty or Polks (I will ditch the 4 " dash speakers.)

The receiver will likely be a mid-price Alpine, and I already have a 100w Alpine amp pulled from my previous rig.

My question is this: where are people putting amps in these 2nd Gen 4runners? There is virtually no room under the dash. I thought about one if the storage compartments in the back but that could have ventilation issues and it would be really close to one of the rear speakers.

Given the spaciousness of these trucks, the interior is really pretty tight and the space has been designed quite efficiently.

One last idea that worked in my honda was to place the amp under the driver's seat. The seats ride pretty low to the floor on these trucks, and I don't want to have to fool with spacers to raise either seat, although I may have to resort to that.

Any better ideas out there?

Thanks,

WJ

Not sure how this would work for you, but it's an idea I have for my son's 1st gen 4runner....can you mount to the back of the back of the back seats (does that make sense??)...leaving enough slack in the wiring so the seat backs can be laid flat.

space is VERY limited in his so that's the best idea I have....but have yet to mess around with it. I know these is substantial bracing on his seat backs.

I'd get two small amps (one for each pair) and look behind the glove box to mount the front one or under the seats.

Is there anywhere behind the interior plastic on the sides where you could hide something?
