Unhappy Steering Column won't attach to main dash support

Alright, newbie mechanic with (hopefully) newbie problems.

I'm working on an 89 Pickup, DLX 22RE without air conditioning. Performing a heater core replacement, having issues getting everything back together.

I got the heater core in fine, but when I went to reattach the steering column, I was only able to attach the two nuts closest to the driver. The two bolts closer to the firewall are not able to reach from the bracket on the column to the tapped holes on the dash support beam. Also, it looks like the column is sitting on the firewall hole, not in the middle (seal is broken). Any thoughts on how to get the holes to line up? I already tried using a jack (carefully) to lift the column, but the holes were then misaligned, so when the bolt is pushed up, it is closer to the firewall than the hole it should be in. I wasn't able to get any good pictures

Red face

It takes some moving of the steering column .

Maybe you can get some help

One person lifts while the other person using something to line the column with the brackets and get the bolts started

Get one bolt in each side that gives you the other holes to pull things in line .

Once the first bolts are in the other 2 should be pretty easy to get .

Don`t tighten anything to all the bolts are in
