Finally got some cash put back to start building up my ride. Just looking for some info on where to start . any input would be gladly accepted

Start by tearing it down so u know what it needs. If it just needs rings and bearings just get those and put the rest of your cash into the head/cam and exhaust. Be sure to have the crank checked out prob polished at a minimum. Rods will need bushings pushed out and new ones resized to wrist pins. Also big end checked out may need resizing also atleast mine did, but I melted a piston so mine needed everything.

Engnbldr is a big help, great prices and different kit options so u only have to buy what u need although full rebuild kit with new Pistons is only $240 really a great value. Lots of great camshaft options too depending on your goals for your vehicle

also don't forget hidden bolt on head in puddle of oil above t cover. Also hidden Allen head bolt on intake manifold (below t stat housing)

TAKE YOUR TIME Do it once, do it right

Take LOTS of pics and label EVERYthing even if u think u will remember where something goes label it anyways!

Oh yeah and might as well get a case of brakleen I am going thro so much on my rebuild its crazy!

If the engine hasn't been taken apart yet and you don't believe it has rod knock or any bearing damage, it'd be worth compression testing (both dry and wet) and cylinder leak-down testing to diagnose the state that it's in. But if it's already out of the truck and disassembled then you might as well just move forward.

Use ARP rod bolts and resize the big end. They fatigue and fail, don't reuse the old ones.

A lot depends on your application as the 22R is used for every thing from rock crawling to circle track racing.

personaly gears are the first thing I would look into before even considering tearing down a healthy 22RE. Much bigger bang for buck.

Lol sorry I assumed you meant build the 22re but after rereading your post looks like it's safer to assume u meant build up your ride! Sorry for totally derailing your thread.

On topic CBR600rx7 said it best get some gears, and a locker. It's all about clearance and traction. Traction is best achieved by greater torque multiplication= lower gears. And locker/s otherwise power is transferred to path of least resistance (i.e. Tire with least traction) Clearence=bigger tires.

top priority should be safety and recovery. Be sure to atleast have solid recovery points on both ends and a strap so someone can pull u out.

Check out the "4wheelers bible 2nd edition" by Jim Allen pretty good info to get you a better idea of what you need to do. Also determine what type of terrain you prefer to go- and build it accordingly.
