SR5 tach off !! Help !

I just swapped out my original cluster for a SR5 one from a 1984 22R 4WD pickup. When I am idling I am at 800 RPMs, same as my aftermarket tach read, but when I am hitting 55 I am around 1750 with the SR5 and was at 2000 with the A/M tach. I GPSed my speed and the speedometer is only a couple off. I have a 5 speed G57 Trans on a 1988 Deluxe 2WD. Any one know what I should be taching ? How can I be good at idle but off at higher range. Also, does anyone know for certain that if you hook up the cluster and start the truck with the stock oil pressure switch attached that the gauge is shot ??. I knew better but forgot !!!!! I have another parts cluster I may remove the oil pressure gauge from but I am hoping that maybe the other survived ???

Thanks,
22R88

I can't help you on the 22re (i've got the 3.0), but I know that the standard (non SR5) oil sender will fry your gauge. If you saw it go all the way up then back down it is gone.

Update !! When I turned everything on the Oil Pressure rose slowly then after about a minute it fell off with the key on, I then realized that I had forgot to remove the wire. I unhooked it and finished installing the cluster. Everything else works, so today at work I go out side and just for the hell of it I hook the wire back up and turn on the key and the needle begins to rise. Maybe I didn't leave the juice to it too long to fry it ??? I guess I will get a oil press sender and try it before I swap out the oil Press gauge from another cluster ??

Sounds like the OP gausge may be ok!
The tach is a bit of a mystery but I'll say this:
One of them is wrong!

Do you happen to have a v6... and the SR5 cluster is from a 4 cyl?
That would explain the cluster tach reading lower than an aftermarket tach.

Thanks for the replies, No I have a 22R and the cluster came from a 22R. I need to hook up a tach/dwell meter and double check

If you rev it all the way up does the needle go all the way to redline? There's two capacitors that wear out, my truck only will rev up on the tach to like 3000. Check out this write up, it might help you out.
