Spun a rod?
What exactly does a spun rod bearing sound like?
I'll make this short instead of the whole story. New motor, has 3500 miles on it. Somehow, some way, it's been losing oil. A quart and a half a week. It's not burning it, and I can't trace a leak. So I've just been adding for a few weeks. The oil pressure light doesn't come on often, but has popped up a few times. I started hearing a noise, sounds exactly like an exhaust leak, but it isn't. Sounds like coming from the bottom end of the motor. I drained the oil this morning to do an oil change, and only roughly 3 quarts came out, and filter was bone dry. Not a single drop came from the filter or the block.
I think I may have starved the engine of oil and spun a rod. It doesn't clunk at all, idles fine and doesnt really ping or knock or anything. Just sounds like an exhaust leak.
What exactly does a spun rod bearing sound like, and would I KNOW FOR SURE if I spun one? Is a spun rod bearing either a YES or NO type of situation, or can you "kinda" (lol) spin a rod? Thanks for the help.

well when my 22r spun a bearing..it sounded like the motor was going to jump right out of the truck...sounds like your oil pump could be bad or one thing..so i would i replace that before you do anything else....your filter should never be dry...at all..im pretty sure even the cheapest oil filters have an anti drain back valve..
are you SURE its dry??..poke a hole in the side and see if any oil comes out..

So where is the oil going then? Have you checked your cooling system? My main bearing, when it went out, sounded horrible. Really loud knocks and the engine was hesitating and stalling. Before that, when it was on it's way out, it was just this little rattle that I could make disappear with just the right throttle.
Good luck with everything, hope you figure out what is wrong.
