Speedometer/Odo stopped working.
Yes i searched, and all ive been able to find is stuff on newer trucks where it has to do with wiring.
my 86 pickup speedometer/odometer stopped working about a week ago, and i need to get it working again.
i was looking through the fsm, and found out where in the transfer case the gear is, but is it just a cable that gets loose? gears worn out in the xfer case?
anyone have any knowledge on what i need to replace?

by the time i got all the wiring done, interior put back together it was 1:30 and was rdy for bed, so i didnt have a chance to check out the speedo cable(note to self:dont start working on your truck at 10:30 at night after a day of school/work )
I pulled the cable, hoping this is the correct one right?
it spins freely, feels lubed, i followed the cable up to where it goes in the cab, and nothings kinked/broken? i have to be at work in a bit, so ill pull the dash tomorrow and check the back of it and see if anythings wrong.

well i yanked it all apart just now, and found what i would think to be the culprit.
the weak@$$ heat guard around it, is dried up, and with the speedo cable wedged right against the exhaust manifold, i guess it got melted, and dried up.
the tcase side spins freely, the dash input side, wont spin even with a pair of needle nose pliers trying to get it to move. as i was taking the cable out from underneath i could hear it cracking, and noticed the part right by the manifold.
well im off to toyota tomorrow afternoon to pick up some seals and o rings for my hubs, might as well see if they have a cable.
