speedometer hand replacement
While changing out a speedo cable on my '91 PU the speedometer hand broke. I can get the cluster apart and get the speedo out but I need to know how/if you can get the hand off the speedo and another one back on it...any thoughts? I'd change out the whole speedo but the truck has 508,000 miles and I don't want to loose that count. Or, can I set a new speedo to the count on the old one some how?

I've always seen people pry the needles off using a fork. Terry87 recently showed how he replaced a needle on one of his gauges. Also there is a good tutorial on YouTube on how to change the odometer count.

i have 90 that i changed the speedo on last year. it just pulled off. i just used my fingers.
it may take a couple of tries to put the new one in place as the shaft isn't keyed. so you put the new one on, it doesn't align with 0mph, you pull it off, put it on, etc. until you get it at the 0mph mark.
it is possible to set the odometer, if you search you'll find a good write-up on how to do it. but you need take the speedo apart and as i recall it involves drilling out the spot welds that hold the odometer in place.
if your speedo is working except for a broken needle, just replace it. its not hard to do.
