Speedo Replacement

Speedo Replacement
So, my truck is 25 years old, and has 100k miles. Of course, my 'Life lasting' speedo is dying and makes the worst squeaking noises on this planet. I cannot decide whether to replace it with another mechanical speedo, or go electric. The mechanical ones are easy to find but there is a chance that it will go out again on me in time. Has anyone had this same problem and can provide some input?

91 and older is a mechanical drive speedometer and 92 and newer is electrical drive. Which year and truck you will determine which one you will need. Is noise in the cable or in the speedometer itself? I would try lubing it myself.

solution either way:
clean & lube the speedo and/or cable. boom.

I just learned about the difference between electric and cable. I never knew some where different. My speedo hasnt worked since I got it. I couldnt find the cable so I figured the previous owner ripped it out for some reason. Went and pulled 2 cables from the junk yard....got home and really looked for a spot to hook it into the tranny. Then I seen that stupid sensor on the transfer case lol thats an expensive ass sensor too!
