My speedo would bounce, turns out the VSS wasn't in tight enough.

Not sure about the tach though - my first guess would be a bad ground.

at 60-70, my speedo in my truck bounces +/-5 MPH on a bad day. some days only about 1 MPH. mine is an old cable driven speedo though. with a VSS I would say its loose.

If I turn the key off real slow, the tach jumps to about 3,000 RPM. Or if I have the stereo up too loud, the speedo jumps a small bit.

how do you chock up to old cables anyways? is that some sort of pulley / block setup or something that keeps your speedo stable?

nice one abe... on a side note, mine jumps too... i just figure that if it says im goin between 63 & 67 im good for the freeway...
but it could also be that you just need to grease the cable...

if it's a cable operated speedo, then maybe the cable needs lubed.
if not, it could be the speed sensor, wiring, grounds, the gauge... who knows without testing it all?

and thanks.
