spark plugs, watery gas

1994 4Runner SR5 V6 5spd 138k

How many bad spark plugs and/or wires does it take before the ride starts getting rough (sputtering, loosing power)

The 4Runner was running fine, I had made a 5 hour trip home the previous night, then the next morning when the tank was almost on empty, it drove great to the gas station,,then immediately after putting in $10 of gas I started down the road and it was sputtering all over the place...not too sure here...water in the gas? fuel filter? plugs or wires going out? I did replace the air filter which was dirty,,,but it did not help at all. If it is water in the gas,,,what's the procedure for getting it out?

Thanks to everyone who can help...

All it takes is one for a cylinder to stop firing right.

It does sound like bad gas. You can add seafoam to the tank....or heet, or anything similar. But, seafoam works well. Cleans everything a bit, too. BUT! If you ran it way low, some crud....if there is/was any....could have clogged the filter up, too. So, try the additive first. If it doesn't work, try a new filter.
