Do plug wires make that much of a difference? I'm looking at either of these ones. http://sparkplugs.com/results_app.asp Does anyone know of a better set for not too much extra money? I want a set that is made for my truck and just installs like stock. My ignition coil is toast as well so I was looking at MSD sets. Is it worth the money? All input is appreciated since I have to order these in the next day or so.


Also...is the Toyota ignition system a weak link? Does it keep up to engine upgrades without needing to be upgraded or does it lack in power? With the mods in my sig will a stock coil and wires do fine?

Well you can't link from the sparkplugs site, but can I assume you are talking about the NGK wires?

From what I have heard NGK stuff is pretty much OEM style replacements.


From what I have heard about the MSD ignition (not much) is they do provide a little extra punch, but I heard you have to do some "creative" wiring...

Ok I think I will go with the blue NGK's on that site. As for the coil...maybe you want to sell yours Jay351? If you bring it over and it tests out maybe we can work out a deal.

I was also looking for O2 sensors. They list a direct replacement for about $90.00. And a universal fit for about $50.00. The pictures look the same but maybe they used a generic pic for each one. Is there a difference that I am not seeing?

I was also going to order an air filter from there. It's just easier to get everything from one place but they don't have the true-flow filter. Guess I'll just run a stock one for now.

I prefer wire core on my wires , my opinion but they deliver a much stronger spark that the traditional carbon core wires and will not degrade nearly as fast as the carbon core due to vibration etc , if you are a audiofile you may find that the wire core will create a bit of popping in your far off radio station but the Yota's incorporate nice supression at the coil which eliminates that common problem with the wire core realated to stereo completely , I would rather have a nice spark at the plugs than a crystal clean weak station reception anyway .

Not bad. Those will work good.

In my opinion wires are the crucial component in your ignition. So the more you invest, the more is returned. Stock coil is good enough, but if you got money to throw around there are better ones out there.

I run solid core ultra-low resistence wires on my 3VZE. It's "risky" with no RFI/EMI sheilding. But I've had no trouble with 'em, and they are AWESOME let me tell ya.

For sure, I will bring it on over and we can test it.

for the o2 sensor, get the direct fit, the universial ones dont have the plug and play deal, they just have a few wires pokin out the end, its worth the extra green to get somthing that will work for sure.

I ordered an oem air filter from them too, it should be here this week somtime, very good deal.

If you get the blue NGK's Il have to check them out, mine are probibly gettin ready to be replaced so I can't pass up a little bling

I would love to run some better wires but it seems that Toyota changed the distributer cap in either 92 or 93. It has a clip system on it and I've found that the aftermarket doesn't make wires for this application. Correct me if I am wrong.

Your right about the clips.

You could run other wires without the clips. They would work, they just wouldn't have the added feature of being held by the clip to the distributor. They'd probably stay on better if you ground down the tabs on the dist. that hold the clips on, but there's no going back there.

Nothin' "wrong" with stock type wires really though if that's fine with you...

Well a bunch of that was way over my head. He did say that the wires were so close that he didn't even bother posting pictures for all of them. I wont be getting Nology wires so I guess it doesn't matter what I get. I for sure don't want any interference in my audio since I will have a pretty large system in there. I'm just getting the NGK's and picking up a stock coil. Nice and simple.

No, the blue ones I was refering to were on sparkplugs.com. They were NGK wires. The MSD wires wont fit a 1993 truck since the distributer cap is a little different. As was mentioned above...you could grind the little clips off the distributer cap but that's not something I want to do. It's just a little extra help in keeping those wires on tight.
