Hey guys, i'm new to all this, but i have a few questions and im asking from some help por favor!

So, im planning on buying a tuff country 4-5'' lift, for my 1995 toyota 4runner, 3.0 and putting 33'' tires on her, shes gutless and drinks gas like its gatoraide lol. I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions, or help me out with what you know.

first of all, if you are getting that bad mileage, i suggest fixing that problem before worrying about a lift, start with a tune up, clean the egr valve etc. 33' tires you WILL need 5.29 gears and it will still be a dog on the highway. low range isnt too bad though

regear... if you plan on 33s i'd go with 4.88s if you have a 5sp and 5.29 if you have an auto.

also a general tune up will help alot... new air filter, coil, wires,plug ect etc...

i'm pretty sure most other 2nd gen are the same way, so its not much worse then any other.

Instead of spending the money on the lift, put that money toward a tune up. What's "bad" gas mileage to you? I get about 13 pretty consistently in my '93 3.0L auto and I consider that good.

Then search, because you can fit 33s stock with a little hammer midification. Or if you really want to lift, do a LC coil lift and Ball Joint spacers. You can have it done with $400.

Gutless/gussler now = Even more gutless/gussling when bigger tires are added unless you regear. Regearing= $

for the rear there are a couple ways of doing it.

1) buy gear set, and setup kit... then pay someone to set the gears.

2) buy a new 3rd ready to run with the locker of your choice (if your regearing might as well lock it now). when i was looking to regear my truck, the cost difference between a ready to run vs having new gears set was like 100 bucks... BUT i got a spare 3rd i could sell on CL (i didnt, it just ended up in the spare 3rd pile in my shop ) http://www.trail-gear.com/toy-diffs.html

3) watch CL and the forums to find someone selling 4.88 third. 4.88 was a factory gear ratio with the 31s and auto on the 2nd gen 4runners.

for the front you can either

1) find a factory 4.88

2) buy the gears and setup and have someone set the gears. I am unaware of any company that sells new IFS diffs.
