Solid Axle Pitman arm play/knock
Hey guys Im trying to diagnose a knock im feeling in my steering right now and as I go over some bumps at slower speed. Its an 88 sas'ed pickup with Hi-steer. My IFS steerin box bolts are all tights, the tie rod ends seem tight but when I push up on the pitman arm there is some play where it connects with the steering box, makes a knocking noise. There is no play when I shake it from side to side but there is a small amount of play vertically.
Is this normal to have play here or could this be the cause of my problem? And what do i need to replace to fix it.
Thanks very much for any help, I appreciate it.
Steve

There might be a bolt on top of the steering box, tighten it.
Don't go overboard though.. and you might want to consider finding a new or rebuilt gearbox or rebuild your own
