soldering up a Supra AFM
So I drove my friends 3ZVE-powered 4Runner the other day and I thought to myself "wow, this thing is nice". Laugh if you like, but I don't know what you guys are complaining about.
I've decided I want more power and the biggest gain/dollar/mpg seems to be a ('79?-)'82 Supra AFM. As far as I can tell, Supras didn't sell well in Canada, as I very seldom see them even in a city of 3M people. I'm sure I can find a junker Supra with an AFM, but getting a '82 may be a problem.
My question is, what is involved in swapping the internals of the AFM from my 22RE AFM into the '82 Supra AFM (because the '82 AFMs are so damned expensive up here)? Or, has anyone got any leads on a '82 Supra parts car in the North West (ideally Vancouver, Canada)?

I know the '82 is plug and play, but I don't think I will find an '82 here. I do however, have a working AFM on my current 22RE, so I'd like to transplant in the electronics from the 22RE AFM into the larger Supra AFM. I don't know how to do this though, and I'm wondering who's done this before.

ooooohhh, ok. Hmmmm, interesting idea. Damn, I want to say that I read a post around here about somebody transplanting afm boards into another afm body...I wonder if the -RE circut board would work with a "bigger" vane?

Sweet!! I'd tried looking for that elusive '82 supra too and haven't had much success. I did try a free "country" wide search and it came back with two hits, but I didn't follow up on it 'cause it sounded kinda hokey.

funny you asked...
i just soldered my AFM today, and its pretty simple as long as you got 2 sets of hands.
there are 6 probes, 3 connectors, 3 solids to a Yota, i got some internal pics if ya need em.
I have never seen a supra AFM, but you can take pieces of thin copper and bend em / solder them to make the connections fit. I did that and my car runs fine afterwards.

Sooo, really, if one couldn't find the plug-n-play '82 afm you can swap guts with a later supra afm? It really works? I wonder if there is a writeup for that around here somewhere...
