So close to AC I could feel it!

I previously (three weeks ago) had pressurized the system with Nitrogen.. let it sit for an hour..
no change in pressure..

flushed the system out..

pulled vacuum on it for about half an hour....

Today
I went to charge the system with R-134a today and the system was working..

I had cold air coming out of my vents... then..

except it was r-134a instead of blood coming out..

a pipe blew a hole.. right were it looks all nice and silvery...
after inspection my grill has been pushed in a little since a plastic tab was broken.. and had worn away at the grill and the pipe....

so now I need a new filter dryer.. and a AC pipe..

Anyone got a spare?

I don't even want to get into the AC on the 4runner. According to the PO it hasn't worked in about 10 years since they cut the belt off for more hp......

the parts new are probably pretty cheap. I replaced the dryer last year and I think it was only $10-15. Make sure you add the appropriate oil to the dryer when you add it.

I just bought one of those for like $15 off ebay. They say you're supposed to replace them every so often or if it gets open to atmosphere. I had to replace my expansion valve and drier, but now my AC blows 40* out of the vents all day long. I love it.

lucky... my 265 air conditioning keeps the inside a few degrees cooler than the environment. (2 windows down 65mph)

Depends on where you live. It gets to 125*+ here so you would be a super badass to not have A/C here.....a super sweaty super badass.

Almost. Vegas gets warm. I can't say I'd live there without it. I know I'd never get the wife to ride with me in the Summer with no A/C. Could be a good thing sometimes.

You should always buy a new filter/dryer if the system has been open like yours has. Did your high side pressure get too high?

I was planning on a new dryer... probabaly from ACkits.com..

and driving to sanoma from san Diego end of June, with the wife so AC will be a must..

ozziesironmanoffroad I can help you out if you want with the AC..

I don't have all the tools though..

turborich, it was the fact that the tube was worn all the way down to about nothing that blew the line.. the oval silvery part in the first pic is were the grill had worn through the line.. the pressure just made the wear make a pressure release point..

Gotcha, I missed that part. Well that sucks. Hopefully next time around she will hold.

You guys don't think Vegas is hot? Trust me it is! I live in this hell hole. In the sunmmer time you can aim a digital infared thermometer at the black top & it will read every bit of 160 degrees. I'm keeping r-12 my A/C, it's too freaking hot here in the summer to be playing with r-134. Sure it works OK in a retrofit on the highway but struggles in the stop & go traffic. I got lucky & picked up a 30lb jug of r-12 for $100 bucks, The guy didn't know what it was.

I live in Havasu. It gets hotter and stays hotter for longer. Supposed to be 106* today I think. Nice and cool.

Dang, I thought I had it bad here in eastern NC. Sometimes gets over 100 with 100% humidity. But not that 12X degree mess. I am just not a badass because I am about to get my AC worked on. I know absolutely nothing about getting it working. Just know that when I turn my AC on the compressor never engages.

SkinnyDip,

You may just need a recharge...

If it worked before and you don't have a bad leak.. If you were local I could check and put some in for you

Where are ya?
