So is this '94 too expensive?

Here is a local craigslist ad for a '94 that looks like a major project; the title of the ad says $1,000 OBO. The ad does not say it but in one of the interior pictures I can see that it is 4WD. I have not started any mods on my '00 since it's my daily driver so I am always on the look out for a 'project'.

1994 Toyota 4Runner for sale. 247k miles, auto, leather int, power everything, factory cd player. Runs and drives, but does not drive very far. Needs engine work. Knock sensor is shorting out and I don't want to fix it. Exhaust work (needs new catalytic converter) and needs tires. I would strongly suggest a trailer to take it home. Show me some cold cash and see what happens! Please serious offers only! No scammers with certified checks, or schmucks with ridiculous offers!

I have a 94 as well and the yare great. knock sensor and new cat isnt bad. magnaflow hi flow cats run aboutr 90 bucks... so sounds pretty good to me.. as long as nothing else is majorly wrong with it.. check it out and see what else is wrong with it...and wave some money in his face and im sure he will go under 1000 when u start naming off the stuff wrong with the thing.

since its a project some thing slike ac may not work but that probably wont bother you but can help u get him down in price. use it all to your advantage wether it matters to you or not.

Since I already have a daily driver this one would be for off-road fun.

Actually with the skyrocketing price of rifle ammo I could raise 2-3K at the next KC gun show just getting rid of some of my military surplus ammo & get this 4runner & have enough left over to have it in good running condition plus new tires; then maybe a lift.

best advice i can offer.... and honestly wish i could have followed it myself. (and yes i know people will say i told you so...)

Get a good DD, THEN get a cheap beater wheeler. the whole DD/weekend wheeler in one is not worth it. i'd rather have a POS to beat on, then be able to drive to work everyday in a nice rig.

sounds like if you put some Benjamin's in front of him he;ll talk... offer 700-800 and see what he says.

needs tires: who cares just allows you to buy some 33s / what tires you want
needs cat: fine, allows you to do a free flow cat
needs knock sensor: not sure, never had to replace mine. hell mine is sitting in a pile of dead motor parts, i'll sell it to you cheap.
247K: getting up there... but still has some life left
auto: only thing that bothers me... autos are dogs.

If the body is in good condition and the frame is not hurt at all with no rust 1000 is a good price for a project truck and like everyone said he'll lower his price to 800 maybe lower depending, if the money is in front of him. Just my 2 cents

Well you want to really see it and drive it. I'd check oil for signs of water and all that. If the knock sensor really is the only big problem it's not too bad. You could have plenty of dough for lockers, gears, tires, etc...

I don't know how a truck with a bad knock sensor drives. Hopefully someone else will chime in. You might look into that only because the trailer recommendation could be to hide some other more expensive hard to fix flaw.

yes yes, pics for us pics whores!

I say buy it, $1000 is a pretty good starting point, just wear him down a little.

There are always 4runners popping up around here with blown headgaskets, and they are usually asking $1000-$1500 and have probably been sitting for months, you've only got a knock sensor and cat, that's way better,

I say check it out, make sure there are no other major issues, no major rust and go for it, It's a good way to get a beater, instead of getting one for $3k-$5k and then having to fix a bunch of crap later, and dents look better on cheaper trucks

If I had a garage or something, I would be picking these up and fixing them left and right, a good way to turn them around and make some $$$
