Snafu wiring. Bad news bears.
Alright guys I got an 86 pickup. And this wiring is just a complete mess, I'm in need of some advice because I have had a heck of a week, I bought this truck just for a project and now all my vehicles, all 7 broke down and this is the closest one to being running. I have the starter hot wired basically, straight to battery up to a switch. Now I have to do the same with the coil. Now I never ran into this problem before so unknowingly I ran the coil neg to battery neg, positive to positive. Coil is getting hot. I have no spark tho. Where would you guys recommend running these wires and what gauge should I use. This is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance. The s.n.a.f.u. Wiring problem.

If it is repairable I would go that route, if it is a total disaster, and I have seen that in the past, I would do a wiring swap. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/ You can replace it in sections, depending on which one you need. Injector harness, Main harness, Headlight harness, and tail light/fuel pump harness. You may not need to replace all of it. This is for an EFI system but applies to carb systems for the most part.

Between the rats, and the previous owner it's destroyed. And it's just being turned into a prerunner so I don't care for spending money on some wiring vrs just jerry rigging it cause I have thrown way to much money into it trying to fix this that I'm fed up and just want to hot wire it.

Wiring a coil directly to the battery (-) to coil (-) and battery (+) to coil (+) will burn it up. The coil need a trigger to cycle on and off. The believe the ECU for a 22re gives this signal. once the coil cycles on then off it will discharge its voltage to the distributor then to the spark plugs. Its all about the timing.

If the starter motor still works and is connected to the battery positive, you can always manually push the plunger down to start the truck. You'd need to drill a hole in the solenoid cover, maybe a 3/8" drill bit and push on it with a bic pen? It sounds like you may not be the best with wiring so a mechanical approach might be better.

Do it right.
Find schematic
Inspect wiring for condition and exactly where they should go
Decide whether to replace defective wires or replace harness
