Sky's IFS steering box

Has anyone here installed a new steering box from Sky's? I've been searching for one to replace my leaky factory one(my pump leaks too!) and everyone else has these for close to $300 and they are the only ones who have one this cheap.

http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/new...uct.php?id=175

I've searched around and can't find anyone who has one, either that or I'm not using the right search terms.

I haven't however sky's only has a 90 day warrenty. Not sure about Marlin's $300 box they don't advertise it but Autozone's $278 box for a 92 has a lifetime warrenty. As well as their $385 box for an 87.

You get what you pay for.

I have no problem spending the extra money, I like to do stuff right the first time inetead of over again because the part wasn't up to snuff. But if this is a rebuilt oem box like everyone else and will hold up then I'd like to try it.

I'll try calling them I guess...

Toyota IFS Steering Box 1986-95 years. Factory box, inspected for wear, cracks, leaks, twisted splines, cleaned. Pitman arm is included though condition is not covered. Box has 90 day warranty from purchase date against leaks.
Sky's doesn't claim they are new or remanufactured...it's a used box that has been inspected & cleaned.

I spent about $500 and change on a remanufactured unit from Napa a few years ago and it's still as tight as the day I bought it. That said, I would have bought a used one from Sky's if I knew about it at the time.

Wow...even $300 is a good deal. I have to replace mine, up here a re-built starts at $700. Toyota's price is $3800 (yeah I'm still shaking my head on that one). I'm purchasing my from The 4Runner House in Texas, $298 shipped.

How often do they go bad? Just find a used one on C-list. Usually go from $60-$100 locally.

Bad choice of words, I meant new as in new to me or anyone else who bought one.

I called and talked to him and found out that they are used boxes like you said that are cleaned, inspected, and painted before being sold and offers a 90 day warranty on them.

I might just do that to the old one and keep it as a spare. I've been reading up on it and it sounds like a piece of cake to me.

The area I live in is infested with jeeps so no luck there. Hell the guy I go wheeling with runs in a Rubicon and I'm the only toyota I've seen at the local park.

I just had the relay rod recall done and they told me about the box and pump leaking and worked up a quote for me. He said "I know you're going to laugh at this but just wanted to bring it up to you anyways, we can fix both for $4033 out the door."

Needless to say I thanked him and told him I'd take care of it myself.

I figured that's what you meant but I wanted to clarify for other readers. He's a great guy to work with...right up the street from where I work too.

OP: I bought & used one of sky's steering boxes on my 83' pickup when I converted it over to high steer. I bought TG's kit, but couldn't see paying $300 + for one of their steering boxes. At the time I couldn't find one on CL, so I got one of Sky's ( I think it was $135 at the time). Anyway I ran it for a couple years, & my brother has the truck now & is still running it. Hope this is helpful, I wouldn't think twice about running another one, good luck!
