Shocks through bed in 4Runner
Who has put longer shocks in the G1 4Runner, by cutting holes in the bed for the upper eye/mount?
I'd like to get longer/better shocks w/o having them at a bad angle (decreased efficiency).
However I still use my truck for hauling stuff (hardware store etc) and am worried about them getting in the way back there (also for space for a spare tire laid flat) and not having it really hacked up.

OK so please tell me how it is possible, I'm open to ideas. I'd rather not hack te hfloor either but don't see many options.
The stock configuration has the p-side something like 35 degs off of the angle of movement. The d-side isn't quite as bad, but the distance for travel (with the OE mount) is less. This is no big deal for driving or even rough roads, but for pushing it off road or racing, where there will be alot of travel and potential for compression, you need more efficiency. I'd rather have them closer to in-line with the angle of axle movement.
I have Pro Comp lift springs with longer-than-stock shackles and the rear perch moved inward. Relative to sitting still, for uptravel, worst-case scenerio w/ the spring 100% flat is about 6" from where it sits now. Downtravel could be as much as 12" (if there were no shock to stop it).
Any shock that will accomodatet hat kind of travel, with room to spare for safety, will not fit in there as I see it now. Unless I'm missing something.

So what you are saying is you have 18" of travel? Are you running 2" lift springs and 2" longer then stock shackles? IIRC there is like 3" of uptravel on a factory spring pack before hitting bump stop. You have 6 which means 3" total lift? What springs are they be chance? Because with my 2" springs and 6.5" shackles I can't even get a 11.5" travel shock to bottom out. Which are too long BTW. Comes real close to bottoming out on compression to tell you the truth. I measured wrong.

The springs are the Pro Comp 33311s, IIRC they are billed as 3 or 4" (?). They are pretty soft once broken in - which happens quickly after a run at Line Mountain etc- and flex a lot.
I believe the shackles are 2-2.5" longer or something, BUT as mentioned the mounts are also moved inwards - this means the resting angle is about the same as normal, but total length at full hang is very large, esp in combo w/ those longer but softer springs.
My concern is with *potential* travel, worst case scenerio - don't want to be bottoming out a shock while moving fast and would be nice to not lose the downtravel.
