I am new to yotatech and I have a 94 4runner 3.0 v6 and just dropped the transmission pan to change the filter and change the fluid. My problem is that when I floor the gas pedal and my car gets into passing gear it gets stuck at anywhere from 4000 to 5000 rpm and won't shift unless I let off the gas. It also does it in first gear as well though. I just got the tps adjusted to specs and I'm lost. My car does seem to run a little warmer then usual but I'm just not sure. Any help would be really awesome!!

Got your etc switch on? It wont shift quick in pwr mode. Kick down cable needs adjusted maybe?

Do a search for the FSM(factory service manual) it has the procedures and specs for test.

It's not the throttle cable (the throttle cable on the A340H doesn't affect the shift points (electronic), only the shift effort. It shifts harder when the throttle is open farther.)

The transmission is supposed to delay shifting with your foot pressed on the pedal; that's why it won't go to lock-up until you lift your foot.

The transmission won't go to overdrive with a cold engine. If your ECT sensor is bad overdrive will require a warmer engine.

Team 420 my ect sensor is not on and i think scope is right about the cable not affecting the shifting points. The problem is not a delay but a stop in the shift all together. Also as the car reaches a point where it should shift the engine tops out and I lose all my power at those higher Rpms. I can literally hold the pedal down and the car will not shift until I let off the gas. Typical solenoid problem I suppose? I'm not sure how to check them or if those could be causing my problem.

I guess my other question would be that if my solenoids are bad shouldn't my transmission throw a code to my o/d off light. I have no codes though. Both my o/d light and check engine light blink consistently when I check the codes.

A trouble code will only be stored if the ECU finds an open or short in the circuit. It can't find a mechanical problem with the solenoid.

I would take another look at the TPS. I know you said it was adjusted, but you need to verify that the TPS itself it within specs. Was this done when the TPS was adjusted?

Get out your multimeter and perform the resistance checks in this link...

The very first page shows you how to verify the TPS is within specs.

If that checks out ok, then perform the "Inspection of TT Terminal Voltage" test on page AT-128...

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys. The tps has been tested and is within specs now and there is no difference in the shifting. Although when the car is cold it seems to not get stuck in passing gear like it does when the car is warm. I'm lost here.

Next step is the manual shifting test. With this test you can determine if the problem is mechanical or electrical. Here is you you do that....

Ok so here is the update! I replaced the tranny fluid and filter and notice a nicer shifting feeling but I still have my same problem. I get to 4000 rpm and all power loss. The 4runner will slow and not shift unless I let off the gas. Much much worse uphill. Seems like a pressure issue personally.

I should add that the car shift fine at higher Rpms when the car is cold and there is no power loss.

Running sporadically sluggish. Maybe the cat is out? Could that cause a shifting problem though?

Did you do the manual shifting test?

Yes the manual shifting test was done with no problems with the gears. I'm lost here.
