Shifter seat replacement help
So I've been reading up on this seat and bushing replacement and it seems to be a easy mod that provides good results but I want to make sure I know how to get to the seat itself I have a 94 Pickup 4x4 22RE not sure of which tranny I have yet but the I have both shifters the main and then the 4x4 the carpet seems to wrap around under each shifter boot and seperates them and it seems really tight almost like its glued to the floor how do i get the shifter off without tearing my carpet to hell ? Thanks in advance guys

Supposedly its doable, but I ended up cutting my carpet to make it easier. I cut straight back from the middle of the shifter about 5", and it worked fine. I just doubleside taped it back down, and it hides itself pretty well

So I first take the shift knob off then do I remove the boot? Or did you keep the boot on when you removed the shifter also how can I tell what tranny I have

the way it worked on mine (w-56) was that you remove the shifter knob, pull the carpet from around the shifter and you'll see the screws to remove to pull the boot up.
please note that I dont have all the center console stuff like all the pictures in the various shifter bushing replacement writeups
go to the transmission section on the marlin crawler site for info and pictures on trans identification

You probably have a W56 C or D:

You can look up the basic model on the VIN/Model Info plate:

This is a pretty decent write up:

Transmission should be a W56..
