On my 89 pickup it screws off. I remember when i was trying to get it off I was twisting and turning and I couldnt get it off. I swore it wasn't meant to be removed. My girlfriend walked came up and twisted it off with one hand (I loosened it up for her, obviously!)

Maybe get the wife/girlfriend twist it off?

Maybe spray some pb blaster up into it. The hold it to one side of the box and lightly tap it with a hammer
