How do you get the bushing out of the leaf spring? I got the one out of the hanger but the rubber one with the metal sleeve inside the spring is giving me trouble. I tried using a puller as a press but that failed..

I burned a set of bushings out of a control arm once with a propane torch. I'm saying its the right way, or a good idea, but it got the damn thing out (obviously, there wasn't anything left of the bushing when i was done). However, i'm about to replace all my worn out bushings, so i'm interested to see what others suggest.

I thought about that too. I've got a mapp gas torch sittin in the garage somewhere

it smells terrible and you end up with drippy molten rubber all over the ground, but i was frustrated and burning stuff is fun. i cant say it was a bad experience. just dont start anything important on fire.

I have done quite a few of these over the years.

First if someone has a better way please speak up .

I have tried just about every spray on lube to be had right up to industrial grade they will not come out .

I have found the best way that works for me. Is to cut the bolt off both sides as flush as possible to the hanger with a zip disc on a grinder .

When that is done spread the hanger just enough to get the bolt to slide in the hole once that is done pry the bushing down just about 1/2 the diameter of the bolt then do the next side of that hanger . Pretty much the same way Once you have the remaining bolt out of the hanger just pry it out. when you put the new goodies in with new hardware any bending of the hanger will be pulled back straight.

I have tried heat air hammers porta -powers anything you could think of . I am always open to new ideas

Yeah burning smells bad lol.
You could also dry drilling a lot of small holes in the bushing and then using a screwdriver or chisle to hamer it all out. Burning is easier though.
