Sealing backup light switch on 5spd?

I have have an 86 4Runner 22RE/5 spd. My back up light switch needs replaced. I know it's a simple R&R, but wanted to ask if I should expect oil behind the switch.

I noticed what appeared to be sealant on around the edges of the existing switch.

Want to be prepared and have sealant ready if needed.

Thanks in advance!

No, there shouldn't be any oil behind it I don't think(unless your tranny is too full). And the FSM doesn't specify any sealant to be used when installing it.

Red face

I just use Never Seize on the switch and fill plugs.

there might be a little oil but it should not come pouring out

You could get some gear oil out of it when removing the switch. Just be sure to double check the fluid level at the fill plug (on level ground) after working on it.

It's a two-terminal switch and doesn't ground through the transmission so a little RTV or similar should be okay to use on the threads, if you feel so inclined.
