Seafoam

So I have used seafoam before on my dads Subaru and it worked wonders, but im not sure if i was doing it right. And I wanted to do it on my 94 4runner 3.0 V6. I was wondering which technique y'all where using and which vacuum is being used? But mainly i was wondering y'alls best technique? Thanks.

i run a half a can through the brake booster vacuum line, and the other half in the gas tank, i don't even bother with the crankcase

I probably read about this on this forum, and have done it myself: It's better to put the seafoam into one of the hoses on the top of the throttle body to more evenly distribute it into the cylinder intakes. You can put the seafoam into some kind of cup container and dip the hose into it to pull it into the intake. It can stall, so you do it a bit at a time, and shut it off for 20-30 minutes before restarting.

Be careful with that stuff. I'd only use it in my gas tank. Not a good idea to put it in the crankcase. IMO

I put about 3/4 in the vacum hose and the rest in the gas tank.

edit. If u add the seafoam to the crankcase i believe you have to do an oil change after X amount of miles

Or you can do like me and pour a little down in to the air line to the idle air control valve and let it sit... then start it up and let some flow into the intake via the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator until the engine dies, wait 15 minutes and start it then do it again, and do that until the seafoam can is empty... and then find the engine runs the same afterwards.

A pint of ATF- 1/2 pint in the crankcase and 1/2 pint in the fuel tank is cheaper than seafoam and does just about the same amount of good, in my honest opinion.

On the 22re, the brake booster hose reportedly works well, but on the 3vze using that puts all the seafoam into the back cyls and none in the front. So it's best to use one of the small vacuum tubes on top of the throttle body as DJ99 said.

Slowly feed in 1/3 can, then shut off for 15-20 mins, then start and run motor to blow out carbon (this will produce gargantuan clouds of smoke). Then feed in another 1/3 can, let sit and then run as before. Pour the remaining third into the tank. If motor is very gunked up, this could put the O2 sensor at risk of getting gummed up. If you're replacing it (and/or spark plugs), do it after the seafoaming.

Any time you pour a liquid into a running engine, you run the risk of hydro-locking it - which would destroy the motor. So feed the seafoam in fairly slowly.
