Anybody have some suggestions for me. I had originally put a 4" Trailmaster bracket lift on the truck () and now I put the Trail-Gear SAS in the front with the 3" leaves. Now I'm about 4 inches too high in the front than the back despite the rear lift with coils from before. My questions is, is there a way to lower the front by taken out some leaves, or can a shop use a spring compressor and take out some arch, or are there some other springs that would work for me? I liked the height of the truck before but wanted to scrap the IFS. Any suggestions would be helpful. Cheers!

Usually it takes a few miles for the springs to settle. Maybe try taking it out on a trail run and wearing the springs in?

The guy at Trail-gear said the springs would settle from 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch ... not 4 inches. No amount of driving will settle them that much.

dear nelly... If you look, TG says the spring hangers ALONE will lift the truck 1 1/2 to 2"

The new hangers aren't recessed in the frame like the 79-85's...

That's why you'll never see me buy a SAS kit... too much lift for I...


EDIT: Well from what I see, looks like they've redesigned it to be lower profile...



It was (2"?) square tube last time I looked at it...

trail gear is smoking the good stuff if they claim the front hanger only lifts it another 1".

They are obviously measuring the lift from the center-line of their product, not from the original location of the 79-85 hangers...

I venture a guess that all the springs both Marlin or TG or anybody has will work for a 79-85 Toyota... So the only way to accurately measure the spring hanger differences is from the original factory location...

actually i believe the TG Marlin and All pro front springs are longer and therefore will not fit the 79-85 trucks......I THINK..lol i have to go to class in a couple of minutes so i didn't have time to check.

A simple part # search will tell... If their springs for the 79-85 have the same part #'s as the ones for their SAS's... Then they're the same.


Think about it... Would you make all new springs for two products? Or just semi-reuse the factory locations and not have to make a whole new product?

All of the kits REPLACE the factory front spring hangars. Anyone actually bother to look?


My front is sitting at 5" over stock, atleast. My rear has exactly 4" of lift which in theory should of matched TG's claim to 4" of lift over stock with their 3" SAS. ehhh WRONG (maybe with a big block, huge bumper and WARN 8274 winch?) Been 'settling' for 9 months. And about 10thousand miles.

you can take one of the leaf out of the trail gear but unfortonatly buy doing that you are softening the suspension too much and you will notice body roll when you go to turn the best solution i would say is find a pair of stock rear leaf springs and mount them up front that will give you 4 inches of lift then sell the trail gear springs

I took the two lower leafs out of my TG springs and didnt notice any extra roll. I eventually put them back in tho because i didn't like the loss in vertical travel (bottoms out quicker)
