Hey guys/gals. I was given a complete 22r engine when I bought my truck. The problem is the engine was stored out sdie for a long time! Idk why but it was missing 2 spark plugs while being stored out side.

So the issue is two of the cylinders where filled with water when I pulled the head off.
Will boring fix this???

Two of the cylinders look ok just dirty, can still see the cross hatch!



Also the crank has a rust spot on the one main bearing? will it polish out?

the only way to really know is to mesure the size ur at and add what ever ur going bigger too. i think u should be alright. i have seen worse motors come out ok.

Try honing the cylinders first, before boring. On the crank, you can use high grit emery tape and polish them by hand

Looks to me like one of those things that you'll only know for sure you can use it is to do the work on it: do the machine work and see if it mic's out within spec.

Looking at the pics of the cylinders, I'm leaning towards "no, it won't work". It may be possible to over-bore and sleeve the cylinders but it that cost effective?

The crank? I don't think it's worth trying. At best, you would have to grind the journals and get new rods and bearings to match. At worst, it's worth it's weight for scrap. In the middle, I suppose it could be welded up and re-ground, but probably not cost-effective.

I'm leaning on the side of "go for it".

the crank will probably under grind just fine, call it .010 under.
The block looks like it will clean up with a .040 overbore, just use cast iron top rings. its not drag race engine so if the walls are little on the thin side its Ok. Its not like the ZL1 blocks that had clyinder bore collapse after a day at the races.

Crank doesn't look that bad to me, try cleaning it up.
Your walls will need bored though, you wanted to do that anyhow lol.

Its been sitting in the basement taking up space so I wanted to see if it would be worth fixing and using or scraping it lol.

Looks like I will be rebuilding it.

Funny story about this engine.....The previous owner daily drove his 89 2wd pickup to work every day. He worked at Bethlehem Steel. His coworkers being a bunch of American steel workers apparently hated his little Toyota truck. So one day someone stole the truck and parked in on the fright train tracks. You can guess what happened next.....yup the fright train hit it. The truck was obviously totaled but he bought the truck back from the insurance company and pulled everything that was salvageable off of it. He then bought another 89 2wd pickup and started restoring it but 80% of the way through the restoration his wife made him sell it. My dad currently owns said restored pickup, and I have my own 88 2wd pickup lol. Between the two of use we will put this spare engine to good use.
