Rolled my truck. Fix it or swap parts?
Well as some of you know i rolled my truck. i managed to get it back to daily driving conditions, but it has problems. so i wanted to sell it. but i dont think i can do it. so is it A) better to fix it, or B) buy one with a blown motor and swap the parts.
The things Wrong with it:
Major body damage.
Bad front end alignment
shot tie rods, steering stabilizer, ball joints, wheal bearings, rear pinon seal leak , diff leak.
Tranny is starting to go bad. first gear comes out to my knee cap.
needs timing belt job
spark plug wires, spark plugs, cap.
as well as some minor things.
The good.
New lift kit
33" Tires

why does it need to run, so long as it's got a fresh lift and 33"s
I don't see why you need to get a whole nother vehicle to swap parts from
just do what's needed at first right away to get it on the road, and then slowly fix whatever is most important next
I would worry about the looks last; a mint looking vehicle is no good if you can't drive it straight or get it into gear

thanx ill keep that in mind. but the body is so smashed, EVERY panel/bumper/fender has major scratches and dents on it.
I think getting a new rig is best. Rebuild the motor and swap. That motor is in GOOD condition. That way i have a parts truck, well what little parts still work on it.

Could you afford another rig right now? Why not buy a cheap vehicle for now, part out the 4runner, which will usually get you more money in the long run, then once you have enough, sell the cheap rig and buy another 4runner or truck.

If you are using it as a DD then it sounds like you need another vehicle. I'm not sure doing an engine swap would be worth it if your engine needs a bunch of work. Chances are the "blown" engines in the other trucks you are looking at are head gaskets if you are looking at trucks with the 3.0.

I hear theres this nice Tercel down in Yelm, you could pick that badass up for a dd and make the runner a trail rig
Seriously though I would do whatever you can to hold on to it. Selling my first truck was the biggest vehicle related mistake i've ever made.
Sounds like a good idea to do some parts swapping. Get your lift, tires, and engine swapped over. Then sell the remains of the green/black one

boy you knew that was going to happen. lol IT sucks about the nice neighborhood thing, but you definitely turned her into a trail rig. How far is your drive to school/work? I think you should try and find some tiny little commuter and spend some time making the runner semi ok. I say cut the back off and graft on a 1st gen runner re movable top or a truck canopy call it good! well, but in a roll cage of course or a an exo cage.
anyway, that sucks, i am sorry that happened. good luck to you.

Maybe you should think of this as a chance to do something crazy to a truck that's messed up anyways. Take the bed off, put a 3.4 in there, and go hog wild with it as a trail rig. It's easy to make a functional flatbed with some angle iron and plywood or deck timbers. You'll never have to worry about dings or paint, since it's all screwed up anyways! As long as you can get in and out of the thing, and it's semi-weather proof.
There are lots of people that either hammer their body panels all to heck, or let them go to heck, just because they 1) like the look 2) never have to worry about it.
As for the people giving you nasty looks, well, that's what'll happen if you make a sick rig anyways haha. I can't wait to get mine to where it makes people double take. It does a little already, but it will even more when I'm done. If I'm ever done.
