Replacing Ignition Coil

On a stock coil the FSM says the primary rating should be between 0.5 - 0.7, what if you replace the coil with one that has a 1.4 primary rating ?, will this affect or hurt anything ?. This is on an 86 4Runner with a 22RE.

Good question. My only concern would be the ignitor. Can it handle the extra resistance?Got a spare?Try it.

what coil are you wanting to put in it?

I put an MSD on my stock igniter about a week after I got the truck and have had absolutely no problems; now I don't know what the resistance is on that coil is either, but I'm just say'n if that's what you've got you shouldn't have any problems; at least I don't... but I do have a spare igniter and OEM coil just in case

generally, you shouldn't have a problem. the biggest issue you might face is a high-speed misfire. the higher resitance coil may take slightly longer to reach saturation and may not be able to develop the highest possible output to the plugs.
