replacing exaust manifold gaskets... will I need new studs?
Hey gang. I have an exhaust leak at the #4 cylinder in my 94 22re. I ordered the new gaskets and the 8 nuts that thread onto the studs. I am wondering how well the studs will look after I pull the manifold off.
Are the studs reusable, or will they be rusted and stripped by the time I get the nuts off?

Thanks. I'll be soaking them in PB tonight, the parts won't arrive until the morning.
Does the gasket usually come off the head and manifold easily? Or will there be a lot of scraping involved?

Manifold is off and at the machine shop. $75 to resurface the manifold. It was well beyond the .029" warp limit. They will charge me by the hour to pull the broken stud out of the manifold. I have to wait until tommorow to get the new head pipe studs to finish the job. All the manifold to head bolts came out easily. The manifold to head pipe bolts were all seized, despite using anti-seize the last time I put them on a few years ago.

I suggest you replace them all.
I know it sounds excessive but when I took mine off, half the bolts were rusted, pitted and starting to wear badly.
Keep the old nuts so you can tighten the new studs in.
Remember the longer bolts go in the top and the shorter ones go on the bottom.
