removing vents
How do you remove the vents on the 89 toyota pickups? I'm talking about the air vents. The ones that swivel up and down, left and right and blow air. (what's the official name?) There's a leaf in mine and I dont want it stuck in there and I want to get it out without breaking it up. It's dang annoying.

No one knows how to remove the vents? You all can rake a single cab and convert it to an extended cab, insytall dual transfer cases, remove a 22re and do a 350 swap....but cannot remove air vents?
Sorry, this leaf is making me mad.

Yea, i know how to remove them, but it can be a pain in the butt. they are held in place by clips, the two in the center are the easyest to remove, the one by the passenger door is the hardest, also held in place by clips, you need a small screw driver to get in behind the vent to press the clip down and pull it out. If you have a leaf in the vent and you can see it, then why not use a small piece of wire to pull it out, just turn the blower on and use the wire to pull it out through the vent, alot easier than removing the vents.

If you can't see the leaf, but you can hear it rattle when you turn the fan on, then it's probably in the "Squirrel Cage" of the fan. You'll have to pull the fan out to remove the leaf. I'm needing to do this, but haven't yet. It's easy tho. Remove the Glove box, then remove the fan. . .

The drivers side and center vents come out with that black surround peice.
The passengerside is bolted to the back of the dashpad, that has to come off to remove it. Good luck!
My passengers side vent mounts are all broken so it shakes and makes noises

I tried the wire snaking thing. Spent about 30 minutes doing that. During that 30 minutes I was thinking about jamming a screwdriver in there to pry the vent out.
I can see the leaf, so it's not in the fan.
So I pretty much only need a screwdriver to press the clip in and pry it out at the same time?
(oh yeah, its the middle vent above the radios)

No no no no don't go prying anything! Its plastic and will break.
-remove the lower drivers dash surround ( 4 screws and 1 10mm bolt)
-remove the ignition surround (pops into place)
-unbolt and remove glove box (again, few screws and 1 10mm bolt)
- pop off the center radio surround, it just pops into place. Make sure you remove the wiring clips
- you will have to remove the heater selector, pull of the ends of the switches and use a thin flathead to pry the passenger side of the heater peice out. It slips into a notch around the clock, so it only comes out/goes in one way.
-Now remove the 2 screws holding the heater controls to the top dash surround
- Now you can remove the black dash peice that surrounds your clutch start cancel switch, the cluster, heater and vents, and hazzard switch.
This (after you remove the two cluster area screws and heater selecter screws) justs pops out. Remove the wiring clip for the clutch start cancel switch, dimmer switch and your hazzard switch.
And then you can get your leaf out.
Sounds difficult but its really easy

lol. Fire. never thought of that.
Well, I went prying the thing and got it out. Dave: 1. Leaf: 0
It was really really easy. I started prying the left side of the vet with a flathead screwdriver, and was bending the plastic dash piece inward, and it let the vent pop out and swivel. I couldnt get it out with my finders, so I attached some needle nose vice grips and pulled it out. It seems the left side just has a nubby that sticks out and goes into a hole to let it swivel, and the right side has sort of a C clip that latches onto another nubby that sticks out of the dash piece. So once you separate the C from the dash, it's able to be swiveled out.
