removable mud flaps
Got pulled over last summer for not having mudflaps, just paid the ticket and never bothered to get any. Now with the sas and added height and 35's on the way I figured I should at least try to make it look a little less conspicuous.
I was just going to use floor mats or a welcome mat but I couldn't find any that were stiff enough so I ended up just getting a pair of universal truck mudflaps for $15. The rest of the parts I had laying around. My old original u-bolts off the rear axle, some 1/2" metal conduit. and a pair of clevis pins. Cut off half of the u-bolt so an "L" was left, slid the conduit over it, drilled a hole for the pin, screwed the mudflap on, positioned and welded the "L" to the frame and slid the mudflaps on and popped in the pins. Then sprayed down the silver parts with some black paint and I'm done.

right on, i literaly just got done making a similar setup today for my runner.. except i used 2 pieces of tubing that slip inside eachouther and also used a pin to hold in place. looks good

don't you just hate laws like that...
it's a good thing there's nothing like that setup up in Florida; a lot of buddy's of mine would be in some trouble with DOT

seeing threads are good reminder to me that some removeable mudflaps are something that i need to do on my '81 Trekker...in Oregon you have to have
mudflaps with in 20" of the ground on all 4 wheels. So far I have not had any
trouble, but why push it.
I like what you did, curious though if you would want to use a heavier tube material than conduit? Seems like that thin of material might fatique after a while...

on with the tech- materials used: mudflaps from big rig, 2x4 doug fir, drywall screws, bungee cord. cost: free.
install time: 5 min.
hopefully this can help someone else obey the law like i am. i think it ended up looking really good, and hopefully provides the coverage needed
to get the ticket signed off. any cops out there who can approve this? thanx.
