Reed valve problems pics

So i bought my 91 pickup v6 4x4 2 years ago in oregon and moved to las vegas, but when i bought it the owner failed to tell me that they removed the egr system and now im having to reistall it so it can pass smog and be registered. Any way i searched the juck yard instead of shelling out the 780 bucks the dealership wanted and ending up gettin all the parts for 55 bucks minus the egr modulator which i had to buy from the dealer. Now i hooked up the entire setup but i ran into a problem with the reed valve theres a vacum connection and i cant seem to figure out where the tube was supposed to come from.

Here a picture, i looked in the maitenece and repair manul and well its not very spessific about it and i cant seem to find anything blocked off like i did with all the other parts. any help is appreciated.

I don't know what that goes to, but what did they use to block off the EGR?

First of all it looks like you are missing your Vacuum Switching Valves there should be 3. no point in having the rest if you dont have them but here is a pic of how it should look. I dont have my egr but the VSV's are still there. you need to get those. Notice the blue, green, and red switches with the wires coming out. Also do your brakes work very well? Im pretty sure that is what the pair reed valve does, to send engine vacuum to assist with the braking.

You are also missing the temp sensor going into the EGR valve.

you moron, when the dude states reed valve in the subject line it refers to the pair valve ... just trying to figure out which one he is talking about, b/c in that picture the pair valve is also not connected.

I do actually have the 3 different vsv vacume switiches still and yea my brakin sometimes feels underpowered but that could also be from the rear brakes needing to be replaced. As for the egr temp sensor no i do not have one but from what i know neither do alot of people on theres. Anyway heres another picture, this one including the vsv.

But there doesn't seem to be a tube that was blocked off or anything

To block off the egr they cut it off at the pipe and welded it shut on the flange i still have em if you want a picture.

Without the EGR temp sensor you are going to get a Code 71 CEL. Search Code 71 to see a resolution with a resistor

I'm sure your check engine light is on. Do a search on how to put a jumper wire in (there is a 93 pickup factory service manual online) to pull the codes. I'm sure you'll have a code 71 since you don't have that temp sensor connected. A 10k resistor put into the connector that normally goes to the temp sensor will stop that code.

Good luck with getting your whole EGR system back up.

First off not trying to be mean but...
the pair reed valve is 1 system. pair valve pulses clean air into your exhaust, using vacuum, to reduce emissions.

The pair valve is in the front and the reed valve is the rectangular box behind it.
reread your post cause im pretty sure you said is it pair or EGR not reed.

Also you will need to do the 10k resistor to prevent the ecm giving you a code. I did it to mine you can look at the pics here http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/dmb no check engine lights yet. Will the valve open without the temp sensor? I dont think so

So the hose should run into the vsv with the check valve on it. Apparently the 91 and 94 have slightly different mounting points. If you clean yours up a little you should notice they are different colors, mine is blue.

Oh i didnt know that and ya its the pair valve then. yea i ran it yesterday and i didnt get a check light but thats probobly because i didn't have the pair valve hooked up to the vsv. but if you say its the blue one i will clean it up a bit and take a look.

thats what it is on mine but its a 94 t100 so the color might have changed either way there should be a small cylindrical, probably orange, check valve on the other vacuum hose coming out of the vsv so just get some hose and plug it in to that vsv.

Another note on the temp sensor it activates the vsv which opens the egr so there is no point in having the egr valve on there without it as it will not actually function. It is closed until the vsv is opened allowing vacuum to open the egr valve. so you may want to get one you can grab it from the junkyard just bring a multimeter with you and test them before you buy. good luck
