Rebuild Supra LSD, blew mine out wheeling
Hi all,
So, this past summer I felt ambitious and learned how to do Toyota gears, lockers, LSD's etc. in Toy axles. Two weeks ago I went out wheeling in some pretty hardcore vertical stuff and I thought that my LSD was not quite working the same as when I first put it in. So, I jacked up one rear wheel and put it in gear and stepped on the gas. Sure enough, the truck only rocked back and forth like the LSD was toast. Normally, I could jack up one wheel, step on the gas and the truck would burnout the tire still on the pavement and jerk itself off the stand.
I would like to rebuild my LSD to be stronger and have better performance, but I am curious if anyone here has ever done this? The stock Supra LSD was awesome before I killed it. Maybe there are other rear axle LSD options I don't know about?
btw-- I have an 88 4r with a v6 rear
thanks!

the supra lsd has an 8" ring gear. It fits in a v6 carrier no problem. More info here: http://www.gearinstalls.com/supralsd.htm

79-86 Supras run a 7.5" LSD (clutch type) which will fit in IFS fronts
86.5-92 Supras run an 8" LSD (clutch and torsen) which will fit in most rears and sa fronts
93+ Supras run a 8.5" LSD (torsen)

you might try contacting the guy in this thread (I don't think he's on this forum much, follow the links) - he makes kits for 7.5" Toyota LSDs, might have a kit for 8" also.
kit install thread
is300 also has an 8" torsen LSD
